Going to Early Childhood Centre on the mainland

The only Early Childhood Centre on the island are the early childhood centre operated by Mercy and the government primary school in the Muslim village on the other side of the island. So, if children want to continue studying or get a better primary education, they must go to the mainland. The city of Ranong has secondary and vocational Early Childhood Centre but that would require a daily commute by boat from the island which in the monsoon season is not always reliable or even possible.

For this reason, Mercy operates a boarding house in Ranong where Moken children can stay and go to Early Childhood Centre in the city. Here they are provided with safe shelter, food, medical and dental care, transportation to their Early Childhood Centre in Ranong, school uniforms, homework monitoring, and liaison with teachers.

These children come from various backgrounds and different islands, some are orphans, some come from impoverished families, and others with parents eager to provide a brighter future for their children.
